Learn more about intense pulse light therapy and the ways in which it can improve your skin’s appearance.
Although age spots happen to most of us, these unsightly brown spots can often make us feel rather embarrassed about our appearance. These skin pigmentations can appear just about anywhere, but they are most commonly found on the face, hands, and other areas of the body that are more likely to be exposed to sunlight. Luckily, intense pulse light (IPL) photorejuvenation can get rid of these unpleasant brown spots.
What is Intense Pulse Light (IPL)?
This special laser treatment, which also goes by the name photorejuvenation, targets the face to address common imperfections such as brown spots, uneven skin tone (blotchy skin) and broken blood vessels. It can even reduce redness associated with rosacea! Along with getting rid of these imperfections, ITL also stimulates the production of collagen, which keeps skin supple and firm while also smoothing away fine lines.
What should I expect from my IPL treatment?
This non-invasive treatment can take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes depending on what area or areas we are treating. IPL treatment can be used to treat the face, neck, chest, hands, and arms. While some patients report a slight stinging, our Andover, MA, skin doctor can apply a numbing gel over the area beforehand so that you don’t feel any discomfort.
Is there a recovery period?
It’s normal for the skin to be slightly red after treatment. You may also notice that age spots, freckles, and other skin pigmentations are darker. This will go away over the course of 3-7 days. Besides these minor side effects, however, there is no recovery period associated with treatment!
How many IPL therapy sessions will I need?
Most patients will need to undergo 4-5 treatments spaced out about 4 weeks apart. Of course, the number of treatment sessions will depend on the type and severity of the issues you want to treat with IPL photorejuvenation. This is something we would be happy to discuss with your during the consultation and planning phase.
