Many people lose collagen and fat in their faces as they age. This volume loss exacerbates the signs of aging. By replenishing volume, patients are able to recapture the fullness of youth to their faces.
Sculptra® is a volume augmentation product that has been used in the United States since 2004. Sculptra is made of a sugar, poly-L-lactic acid, which is injected under the skin surface. As the body absorbs the Sculptra, collagen is formed in its place. Sculptra has been called the “liquid facelift” as it restores a youthful appearance to the face without the need for surgery. Sculptra may be used to fill in the cheeks, the hollows under the eyes, and lines around the mouth. It may also be used to “lift” the jowls and eyebrows. Most patients typically need 2-3 treatments and results last approximately 2 years.
Fat injection - grafting is another powerful technique to create facial volume. Fat is harvested from the patient’s body, processed through a special technique, and placed into specific areas on the face. Grafted fat cells become incorporated into the face and the results are permanent. Touch-up treatments may be necessary as patients continue to age and lose volume in their face. This procedure may be performed in the office.
